Meadowlark Retreat Outcomes

Connection through True Understanding‍One of the themes of the Meadowlark Mother Retreats that we encounter during our intake process for the Retreat, we ask mothers what they hope to gain from the experience. The most consistent response we receive is, "I want to be around other mothers who get it." This sentiment speaks volumes about the profound nature of losing a child. The pain and confusion are so overwhelming that only someone who has experienced it can truly understand.‍This response also highlights the isolation that grieving parents often feel. There is no closure for such a loss, and a parent does not simply move on. Yet, they are often surrounded by people who want them to return to their old selves as quickly as possible. This creates a deep sense of loneliness, as their pain is not always acknowledged or understood by others. Many mothers have expressed a wish to wear a piece of clothing that signifies their loss, so others would know to approach them with sensitivity and kindness without needing an explanation.‍Our goal is to provide a weekend where mothers can connect with others who truly understand their sorrow. At the Meadowlark Retreat, they can share their deepest grief without the fear of burdening someone else and feel seen and supported by those who have walked a similar path.‍In May we held our retreat in Healdsburg, with four out of the six participants traveling from out of state. There are few retreat options for grieving parents, and even fewer specifically for mothers or fathers. We are grateful to serve these parents and recognize that we offer a unique and much needed resource. Your donations help us continue this vital work, providing a space of healing and understanding for those who need it most.
